Siding in Windsor

Siding for Windsor homes

Windsor's housing ranges from early-1900s homes in Walkerville and the older core to post-war bungalows and newer subdivisions. Windsor has a wide mix of exteriors: brick homes with siding on upper storeys and gables, older homes with aluminum siding from decades ago, and newer vinyl-clad houses. A common Windsor project is replacing faded or dented aluminum with a modern profile while repairing the sheathing and flashing underneath.

What's included

Vinyl, fibre cement, engineered wood and metal siding installed over a properly flashed, weather-resistant wall. Depending on your project, the work can include:

• Vinyl siding
• Fibre cement siding

• Accents and trim
• Assessment.
• Product selection and quote.
• Removal and repairs.
• Weather barrier and flashing.
• Siding and trim.

Full details, our process and common questions are on our main siding page.

Local conditions in Windsor

Windsor sees hot, humid summers, strong thunderstorms and repeated freeze-thaw cycles each winter, all of which are hard on roofs, siding, eavestroughs and wood trim. Mature trees on many older streets add leaf build-up and shade that can hold moisture against the house, so we pay close attention to drainage, flashing and ventilation.

Questions to ask before you hire

Whoever you hire for siding in Windsor, get clear answers to these before signing:

• Will the old siding be removed so the wall can be inspected?
• What weather barrier and flashing details are included?
• How will windows and doors be integrated with the new siding?

Permits and approvals

Building permits in Windsor are issued by the City of Windsor's building department, and zoning rules come from the City's zoning by-law. Requirements depend on the scope of work, so we confirm what applies to your project during planning and handle applications for the work we're doing.
