Window Installation
Even a high-quality window will leak air and water if it's installed poorly. We focus on the opening: square, sealed, insulated and flashed.
Drafty, fogged or hard-to-open windows are one of the most common reasons homeowners call us. Ironcrest Contracting installs replacement windows in existing homes and new windows in additions and new construction, and we take the time to finish them properly inside and out.
Window services
- Replacement windows — casement, awning, slider, double-hung, picture, bay and bow windows sized to your existing openings.
- Full-frame replacement — removing the old frame entirely when it's damaged or when we need to inspect and repair the rough opening.
- New and enlarged openings — adding windows or enlarging openings, including new headers where structure requires them.
- Basement egress windows — enlarging basement windows to meet egress requirements for bedrooms, as part of basement finishing.
- Interior and exterior finishing — insulation, sealing, flashing, exterior capping or trim, and interior drywall returns or casing.
How the project runs
- Measure and consult. We measure every opening, check the condition of frames and sills and help you choose styles and features.
- Quote and order. You receive an itemized quote listing window types, finishes and installation details. Custom windows typically have a manufacturing lead time.
- Installation. Old windows are removed one opening at a time, so your home isn't left open, and new units are set level, square and sealed.
- Finishing and cleanup. Exterior trim or capping and interior finishing are completed, and debris is removed.
Good to know before you start
Insert replacements leave the old frame in place and cost less, but they slightly reduce the glass area and only work when the existing frame is sound. Full-frame replacement allows us to repair the opening and flash it properly. Changing the size of an opening is a structural change that may require a permit. If you're planning new siding, replacing windows at the same time is the most effective way to integrate flashing and the weather barrier.
What affects the cost of window installation
Window costs depend on the number of windows, their size and style, the frame material and the glass package. Casement and specialty shapes cost more than sliders and fixed units, and bay or bow windows involve additional structure and finishing. Full-frame replacement costs more than an insert installation but allows repairs and better flashing. Enlarging openings or cutting new ones requires new headers and may need a permit. Interior finishing, exterior capping and the condition of sills and framing also affect the final price. Triple-pane glass, coatings and colours add to the product cost. Your quote lists each window so you can prioritize if needed.
Window Installation questions
What type of window is most energy efficient?
Efficiency depends on the glass package, frame and installation. Casement and fixed windows usually seal tighter than sliders. Compare ratings such as U-factor and Energy Rating on the product label.
Can windows be installed in winter?
Yes. Openings are handled one at a time to limit heat loss, although extremely cold or wet weather can affect sealants and exterior finishing.
How long do new windows take to arrive?
Lead times depend on the manufacturer, size and options. We give you an estimate when you order.
