Kitchen Remodeling

A kitchen remodel touches almost every trade in the house. We plan it properly, sequence the work tightly and keep one point of contact from demolition to the last cabinet handle.

Most kitchen projects start with a frustration: not enough counter space, a dead corner nobody can reach, a room that's closed off from the rest of the house. Ironcrest Contracting remodels kitchens from a cosmetic refresh to a full gut-and-rebuild, and we start by understanding how you use the room before anything is torn out.

What a kitchen remodel can include

  • Layout and design planning — work zones, walkways, island sizing and appliance placement, drawn out before you commit.
  • Cabinet installation — stock, semi-custom or custom boxes, installed level and secured, with fillers and scribes fitted to imperfect walls.
  • Countertops and backsplash — quartz, granite, laminate or butcher block, plus tile backsplash set to clean, consistent lines.
  • Wall removal and openings — opening a kitchen to the dining or living room, including load-bearing walls with an engineered beam where required.
  • Flooring, drywall and trim — new flooring and patched or new drywall and finishing so the room is complete, not half-done.

Any plumbing, electrical or gas work in a kitchen must be completed by appropriately licensed trades. We schedule that work into the project timeline so you aren't left coordinating it yourself.

How the project runs

  1. Site visit and measurements. We look at the space, talk through budget and priorities, and check for structural or moisture issues behind the cabinets.
  2. Design and written quote. You get a layout and an itemized quote that separates labour, materials and allowances.
  3. Ordering and permits. Cabinets and counters often have lead times, so we order early and handle permit applications when the scope requires them.
  4. Build and finish. Demolition, rough work, cabinets, templating, counters, backsplash and trim, followed by a walkthrough and punch list.

Good to know before you start

Expect to be without a working kitchen for part of the project. Countertops are usually templated only after cabinets are installed, which adds time between those steps. In older homes, opening walls can reveal outdated wiring, old plumbing or materials such as plaster that need extra work; we flag these as soon as they're found and price changes in writing before proceeding.

What affects the cost of kitchen remodeling

The biggest cost drivers in a kitchen are cabinetry, countertops and how much the layout changes. Keeping appliances and sinks in place keeps costs down, while relocating them or removing a load-bearing wall adds structural, plumbing and electrical work. Cabinet construction, door style and interior organizers vary widely in price, as do countertop materials, edge profiles and the number of seams. Flooring that runs under the cabinets, the size of the backsplash and the condition of the walls and subfloor once they're exposed also affect the final number. We break each of these out in your quote so you can see where the budget goes and adjust priorities before work starts.

Kitchen Remodeling questions

How long does a kitchen remodel take?

A cosmetic update can take a couple of weeks, while a full gut renovation usually runs several weeks or more depending on cabinet lead times, structural changes and inspections. Your quote includes an estimated schedule.

Can I keep my existing layout to save money?

Yes. Keeping sinks, ranges and appliances in roughly the same locations usually reduces cost, because it limits the plumbing, gas and electrical changes required.

Do I need a permit for a kitchen renovation?

Cosmetic work often doesn't, but removing walls, changing structure or altering plumbing and electrical systems typically does. We confirm requirements with your municipality during planning.
