Drywall & Interior Finishing

The difference between an okay renovation and a great one is often in the finishing: flat walls, crisp corners, tight trim and doors that close properly.

Finishing work is where a room comes together. Ironcrest Contracting handles drywall and interior finish carpentry as standalone projects and as part of larger renovations, from patching a damaged ceiling to finishing an entire floor with new walls, doors and trim.

What we handle

  • Drywall installation — new walls and ceilings hung, taped and finished to a smooth, paint-ready surface.
  • Drywall and plaster repair — holes, cracks, water-damaged sections and plaster repairs blended into the surrounding surface.
  • Ceiling updates — textured or popcorn ceiling removal and resurfacing, after testing for asbestos where required.
  • Interior doors — pre-hung and slab door installation, hardware, and fixing doors that stick or won't latch.
  • Trim carpentry — baseboard, casing, crown moulding, wainscoting and feature walls.
  • Closets and built-ins — closet framing, shelving systems and simple built-in storage.

How the project runs

  1. Review the space. We look at the existing surfaces, the cause of any damage and the level of finish you expect.
  2. Quote. A written quote outlining scope, materials and any testing required.
  3. Protect and prepare. Floors and furniture are covered, and dust control is set up before work begins.
  4. Install and finish. Drywall, mud and sanding, followed by doors and trim, leaving the space ready for paint.

Good to know before you start

Drywall finishing creates fine dust, so we use protection and containment and clean up at the end of the job. Joint compound needs time to dry between coats, which means drywall work usually spans several days even for smaller rooms. If damage was caused by a leak, the leak itself must be fixed first. Textured ceilings installed before the mid-1980s may contain asbestos and must be tested before removal.

Drywall and finishing are often the final step in a basement finish or whole-home renovation, and we coordinate them with your flooring installation so baseboard goes on once.

What affects the cost of drywall & interior finishing

Drywall and finishing costs depend on area, ceiling height and the level of finish you expect. Large, open walls go up faster than rooms with many corners, openings and bulkheads. Repairs that require matching an existing texture take more care than new walls. Ceilings, especially high or vaulted ones, need more set-up and labour. Removing a textured ceiling adds testing, containment and resurfacing. For trim and doors, the profile and material of baseboard and casing, the number of doors and whether they're pre-hung or slabs all affect the price. Your quote will show how much of the cost is labour, materials and preparation.

Drywall & Interior Finishing questions

Can you match an existing wall texture?

In most cases, yes. Matching texture on walls or ceilings is part of a proper repair so the patch isn't obvious once painted.

Do you paint after drywall work?

Our drywall work leaves surfaces primed or paint-ready. Painting can be added to the scope; ask us when you request your quote.

Is popcorn ceiling removal messy?

It can be. We contain the area, protect floors and test for asbestos first where the age of the ceiling requires it.
